Coal train CBBPL (Black Buttes to Commonwealth Edison Joliet Plant at Plains, IL) has engines 3688, 3400, 2465, and 3103 at Wamsutter on September 18, 1987. The Black Buttes mine began production in 1979 and was a joint venture between Union Pacific and Kiewit Mining Group Inc. The original symbol for this unit train was PBUE (Plains Black Butte Unit East). It began on August 21, 1979 handling 115 cars on a seven day turn around schedule. These trains supplied about three million tons of coal a year for this plant until the coal contract went to the Rochelle mine in 1992.
