Engine 8799 began its life on the Southern Pacific as number 9010. It was a second generation Krauss-Maffei. The first generation looked like F units with a full car body. The second generation looked more like the road units with side walkways. It was later renumbered 9113 to make room for more SD45s. It spent most of its like in the San Joaquin Valley working out of Roseville. The hydraulic transmission and Krauss-Maffei diesel engines had constant problems. It was later converted to the camera car in Roseville and used to film segments of the SP for engineer training. |
