Engines 6124, 6179, and 6157 lead westbound manifest train through Burkeville on August 27, 1989. Much of the original Virginian Railway track in the eastern half of Virginia was abandoned. However, the N&W retained the Virginian trackage between Roanoke and Burkeville. The railroad sends almost all of the loaded coal trains east on that track. Empty coal trains and most of the manifest and intermodal trains use the old N&W main between Roanoke and Burkeville. Disk 124
