The Missouri Pacific had trackage rights through the former Texas & Pacific agreement with the SP between Sierra Blanca and El Paso. Two MP trains were scheduled out of El Paso each day: train symbol ED (El Paso to Dupo) at 10:00AM and train symbol EC at 8:00PM. Before 1975 these had been trains 60 and 64. However by 1975 the SP was only turning one train a day over to the MP at El Paso. Late in the afternoon of November 23, 1975 Extra 3001 East charges upgrade near Lasca (nine miles west of Sierra Blanca). This train would later become train symbol EFZ and be scheduled out of El Paso at 3:00PM. The grade crests about four miles west of Sierra Blanca at 4,650 feet. Disk 100 |
