On the morning of November 1, 1980 SLSF engines 843, 900, and 922 come through Garrett. The Houston & Texas Central installed automatic block signals between Ennis and Garrett (2.3 miles) in 1917. Years later in 1943, the SP modified this short stretch with CTC operated from a small interlocking board in the station at Ennis.
About an hour later, SP engine 8777 leads a block of cars out of Ennis for Dallas. These cars came off the Merchandise (train symbol LAEST) at Corsicana. Disk 98
