The town of Dalhart was established when the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railway building west from Liberal, KS to Santa Rosa, NM crossed the Fort Worth and Denver City line in 1901. When these photographs was taken, the Rock Island route had just been taken over by the Cotton Belt. |

On May 13, 1980 Extra 7284 waits on the main line at the station for an empty train (Extra SP 8729) to take the siding. Both trains serve the power plant in San Antonio. Once the empty train is by the loaded train gets the signal to cross the old Rock Island mainline. The agent at the former Rock Island yard office controlled the signals at the crossing. Dalhart is at milepost 417. Notice that the BN train order operator has put his train order signal back to red after the northbound train had passed. |
