Extra 319 South goes into the siding at Boyd to meet Extra 320 North at Boyd (milepost 585) on August 12, 1978. Below, Extra 4542 North meets a southbound grain train at Boyd on April 14, 1979. Between 1977 and 1979, the Rock Island converted four old U25Bs to road slugs in its Silvas shops.

Two months later Extra 341 North comes through Boyd on June 15th.
