SP train symbol LAEST at interlocking Tower 72 in Corsicana

On the east side of Corsicana, the Cotton Belt crossed over the old Burlington Rock Island line at Tower 72 (milepost 621 on the Cotton Belt). On the morning of December 15, 1977 Extra 9344 East (the Merchandise - train symbol LAEST) has set out the cars for Dallas, made its air test, and is now crossing the BRI mainline. Interlocking Tower 72 was built in 1907 and torn down around 1984.

SP engines 9250 and 8773 out of Corsicana

Engines 9250 and 8773 are just out of Corsicana on August 19, 1978 headed to Tyler for a crew change. On the radio I heard the conductor giving the operator the exact time they departed Corsicana and added the phrase, "Tell that dispatcher that we took off like a scalded dog." The Cotton Belt reached Corsicana in 1880 building southwest to Waco. In 1957 the Cotton Belt completed installing CTC between Corsicana and East St. Louis. Disk 99
