Train 258 (Extra 8654 East) had been waiting just north of the crossing in downtown Rice for the northbound train to get into the clear on the siding. With the increase in coal traffic and longer trains, the siding at Rice was lengthened to a little over 10,000 feet in the early 80s. During the upgrade, the classic semaphore signals were replaced with standard searchlight signals. Disk 99 |
