ATSF Railway train symbol 804 by semaphore signals near Blanchard, NM

ATSF Railway train symbol 804, with engine 4019 in the lead, passes semaphore signals near Blanchard, NM on May 17, 1978. Blanchard is at milepost 793 (23 miles southwest of Las Vegas) on the Glorieta Sub. This train has mostly empties. Note the B unit with the radio controlled helpers are coupled onto the headend power. The train had special blocking out of Albuquerque due to the steep grades over Glorieta and Raton Passes. Coming out of Albuquerque the first block was local traffic to be set out before leaving Lamy. Then it was all loads with the empties on the rear. This made train handling over these steep grades much easier. The train would be reclassified at La Junta. Disk 63
