Right behind the EPW is train ABSM (Advanced Blue Streak Merchandise). The location is about halfway between Steins and Vanar. I chased this train from near Del Rio, Texas to Ordway, California. There are a few pictures of train in the Texas and Semaphore Signal galleries. The train traded power at El Paso and now has engine 8975 in the lead. |

Train SCLAY (Extra 9393 West) is at the west end of Steins on November 24, 1975. This train originated in Birmingham, AL on the SCL and was routed over the former L&N to New Orleans. This was an impressive train with 176 cars. However, the train had a dynamiter and every time the engineer had to set the train brakes to control the speed on a descending grade, the train would go into emergency. This train was split into two trains at Tucson. Steins is at milepost 1129 at 4,350 feet in elevation. |
