The north line between Wellton and Phoenix was completed in 1926 and had many semaphore signals. There were up to 12 passenger trains a day on this line in the 40s. Although these signals were photogenic, there was little train activity during daylight in the 70s. The two freight trains were scheduled through at night as well as the westbound Sunset Limited. The eastbound Sunset Limited came through in early morning. This is the east end of Arlington siding on December 17, 1985. We found some rail on a short spur off the siding that was dated 1923. After the sun set, we stayed for awhile and looked at stars in the clear night air. As we were leaving we could see the headlight of the westbound PXWCY coming out of Buckeye. Arlington is at milepost 861. |
