The Great Northern crossed the Modoc Line at Stronghold on its way to Bieber. The Inside Gateway was completed in 1931. On July 7, 1989 train EUASM with engines 9265, 7269, 9400, 9215 with helper units 8325 and 7559 move 8,432 tons over the crossing bound for Alturas. Stronghold is at milepost 524 (measured from Oakland via Fernley, NV) on the SP and milepost 327 (measured from Wishram, WA) on the BN. Disk 21
