Heavy rains raised the level of the Great Salt Lake so much that the AMAX plant at Rowley, UT had to import ocean water. SP and UP operated a brine train. UP train ROELE (empty tank cars) rolls through Deeth, NV with engines 7546, 7521, and 9328 on September 15, 1987. It will be turned over to the SP at Elko and become train ELNKU for Newark, CA. The elevation here is 5,345 feet. |
