When I was in San Francisco waiting to be discharged from the Navy, I managed to catch some of the evening commuter rush on September 17, 1976. Train 128 is just leaving 3rd and Townsend. The SDP45s had been relieved of their earlier Amtrak duties on the Coast Daylight and were now in charge of most of the commuter trains between San Jose and San Francisco. This let the SP retire the Trainmasters.
