Train SMV (Extra 8968 East) is leaving San Luis Obispo on February 13, 1974. The train will stop at Guadalupe and pick up more mechanical reefers from the Santa Maria Valley. The spinach harvest runs from February to June and again from September to November in the Salinas Valley and almost all year here in the Santa Maria Valley. California produces almost half of the nation's spinach. This train will change symbols at Los Angeles and become one of the Colton Blocks. In May 1974, the symbol of this train would be changed to GUWCP. |
