Train OS (Extra 8421 East) has just left Ambrose (milepost 485) and was descending the two percent grade down to Canby on May 13, 1973. Train OS (Oregon Special) handled manifest and perishable traffic (mostly lumber) from Eugene to Ogden, Utah. |

The train is entering Alturas (milepost 458). At Alturas, the crew will cut off the lead engine and add it to a two units in the yard, These units (8421, 9184, and 9228) will then serve as a helper set to get the train to the top of the hill at Sage Hen. |
