The Great Northern crossed the Modoc Line at Stronghold on its way to Bieber. The Inside Gateway was completed in 1931. On July 7, 1989 engines 9265, 7269, 9400, and 9215 pull train EUASM over the crossing bound for Alturas. Stronghold is milepost 524 (measured from Oakland via Fernley, NV) on the SP and milepost 327 (measured from Wishram) on the BN.

The train has 79 loads and 12 empties at 8,432 tons.
