From Salt Lake City the double track runs almost due
north to Ogden (mp818 from Los Angeles and changes to mp992
from Council Bluffs). The tracks climbs from 4,298 feet through Weber
and Echo Canyons to the summit at Wahsatch (mp927) at 6,800 feet,
They drop slightly, and then begin another climb to Altamont
(mp905) at 7,227 feet. From here the tracks descend to Bryan
(mp830), 6,181 feet, climb up to Peru (mp825), 6,388 feet, then
drop to Green River (mp817) at 6,083 feet. From Green River the tracks wind through barren canyons,
then break out into high plateau and cross the Continental
Divide at Creston (mp712) at 7,107 feet.
NPLA left North Platte yesterday morning at 635AM
with engines 3417, 2454, 3651, and 3266 dragging 94 loads and 17
empties at 10,198 tons. This morning, it picked up three loads
at Bryan (mp830) and came into Ogden at 505AM. It departed with 84
loads and 47 empties, 10,218 tons. It came into Salt Lake City
at 730AM and set out engine 3266 for the CSLAZ. After
yarding the train, it was set to leave North Yard at 1100AM,
when the carmen found a bad order car 30 cars from the head
end. After setting the car out, it would leave at 1125AM
with 62 loads and six empties, 6,390 tons. It would pick up 25 empties
at Garfield.

Union Pacific train SCNP at Ogden, UT
HKLA had engines 3790, 3481, 3466, and 3431 pulling 56 loads and 17
empties, 6,907 tons. It left McCammon at 445AM and was now
loping along at Clearfield (mp809).

Union Pacific train APLA1 Emory, UT
APLA3X left Fremont, NE at 315PM yesterday with 140
loads, 7,700 tons and had engines CNW5095, MILW165, 3434, and
WM4364. It traded power and set out 15 loads for Seattle at
North Platte. It departed from Rawlins at 510AM and had just crested
the summit at Wahsatch (mp927) with engines 3415, 3109,
SP7353, 3396, 6044, and 6002 pulling 125 loads at 7,041
tons. It would leave Salt Lake City with 90 loads at 4,968
tons.

Union Pacific train APLA1 Castle Rock
LADET departed from Los Angeles yesterday at 440AM. It set out
engine 3508 and left Salt Lake City at 550AM with engines
3573 and 3920 stretching the slack on 27 loads, 1,724 tons.
It was ducking under Interstate 80 near Leroy (mp891). Engine
3573 had been acting up since leaving Ogden. Today, it would
operate into Cheyenne and be consolidated with the NPDET.
Normally, the crew is changed at Speer before the train
heads south to Denver.

Union Pacific train Train NPOA at Peru, WY
SENP1 left Seattle at 405AM on the 4th. It arrived in Hinkle
at 740PM that evening and set out engines SP9331, 3394, and
2034. It departed at 645AM on the 5th with engines 3521,
3171, and 3314. It set out engine 3314 at LaGrande. It left Pocatello
at 135AM with 88 loads and 12 empties, 10,037 tons. It met N285 at
Alexander (mp151) and let SECSZ run around it at Soda Springs
(mp146). It met NPSE at Marse (mp89), NPHK at Beckwith (mp72), and
CSSEZ at Leefe (mp65). It now had engines 3521 and 3171 in full
dynamic brake after passing Peru (mp825). It would set one
load out at Green River and leave at 1225PM.

Union Pacific train NPSE2 at Green River, WY
NPPC with engines 2404 and MP6059 arrived in Green River
at 805AM. It departed North Platte yesterday at 800AM, with 17 loads
and 71 empties, 3,864 tons. It left Cheyenne at 428PM with 26
loads and 101 empties, 5,764 tons, waited 30 minutes at Dale
Jct. for the SLOAZ to pass, and left Laramie with 27 loads
and 69 empties, 4,560 tons. After letting the CSLAZ pass, it departed
Rawlins at 220AM with 22 loads and 58 empties at 3,804 tons. It let
the CSSEZ run around it at Riner and left Rock Springs (mp802)
with 46 loads and 80 empties, 7,612 tons. It would leave Green
River at 115PM.

Union Pacific train PCNP at Rock Springs, WY
MINPZ departed from Milpitas at 1005PM on the 5th and left Oroville
yesterday morning at 620AM. It had been delayed in Salt
Lake City's North Yard when carmen noticed a bad order car in
the departing SCHK. It was blocked until the SCHK was given
the go ahead to move up and clear the cross over, so the
MINPZ could depart. It was leaving Green River with
engines 3465, 3793, and 2464 pulling 37 loads and 25 empties
at 4,047 tons.

Union Pacific train Train MKTA4 at Point of Rocks, WY
MKTA4 left Fremont, NE yesterday at 503PM with engines
CNW5065, 3211, 3173, and 2461 pulling
140 loads, 7,700 tons. It traded power at North Platte for
engines 3769, 3559, and 3624 and departed at 1100PM with 135
loads, 6,175 tons. It was now creeping through the siding at
Black Buttes (mp767) because a M/W gang was working on the
westbound main.
SECSZ left Seattle at 915PM on the 5th and left Hinkle
yesterday morning at 950AM. It had its 1,000 mile inspection
at Pocatello and departed at 235AM. It met N285 at
Alexander, NPSE at Cokeville, NPHK at Leefe, CSSEZ at Fossil
and departed Green River at 910AM. It was now near Table
Rock (mp747) with engines 3582, 3161, and 3288 pulling 40
loads at 2,689 tons.

Union Pacific coal train CBBPL at Wamsutter, WY
PCNP left Green River at 730AM with engines 3738, 3696 (dead)
2407, 2500, 3428 (dead), and 3513 (dead) hauling 55 loads and
61 empties at 7,716 tons. It let the OANPZ run around it at
Rock Springs and was now barreling out of Creston.
GRNP departed from Green River at 540AM with 115 loads, 14,401 tons,
and had engines 3389, 3917, 3090, and 2944. It let the OANPZ
run around it at Riner and was now rolling into Rawlins.
The first three units came into Green River last night on the NPGRS.
