Train SCHK waits at Meacham for a green signal on September 11, 1987. The train has engines 6009, 6050, ,6038, and 3968. The eastbound Amtrak Pioneer has just gone by and just after taking these pictures, the dispatcher gave this train a green signal to proceed down the mountain. That is engine 3716 with the ballast train off to the right.
SCHK was schedule into Hinkle at 600AM. The picture was taken late in the afternoon from the front porch of engine 3716 (on a work train), so this SCHK was many hours late. The next day freight train SCHK would be closer to schedule and get out of LaGrande at 815AM with 54 loads, 25 empties, 6904 tons. Disk 14
