Extra 8268 West pulls to a stop at the north end of Roseburg on August 10, 1981. The train has engines 8268, 9290, 8564, 4395, UP3213, SP8322, 9160, 4890, and 4368 pulling 22 loads, 77 empties at 5,001 tons. The train set out a couple units in the yard and then pulled passed the station and went to the south end of the yard to set out part of its train. Most of the cars set out will go to the big lumber mill at Dillard. At the time these pictures were taken, central Oregon was experiencing a heat wave. It was around 10AM and the temperature had already climbed to 110 degrees. It was so hot that my car had vapor lock and I couldn't chase the train further south. After minor repairs that didn't help much I managed to catch a local (Extra 4366 West) at Round Prairie and that was it for the day. I had to wait another hour for the engine to cool down enough that I could get the car started again. Disk 24
