Since the FRA bad ordered all of the helper power for train CZLAT at Dougren, the train is heading up the hill at Dexter without assistance on August 4, 1987.

On May 11, 1973 the SP was operating a little better. I just missed a meet with an eastbound train. The four units that will become the helper power, led this westbound out of Eugene. The helper units have cut off from the point of the train and are waiting on the mainline for the train to leave the siding. The units will cut into the train when about two-thirds of the train has passed. Right now the engineer on engine 8419 is waiting for a clear signal to start moving the train out onto the mainline.
