Western Pacific Railroad train symbol WPV at Deeth, Nevada

The former Southern Pacific trackages was protected by semaphore signals until the railroad began replacing these signals in the early 70s. I found this lone survivor about two miles west of Deeth on September 17, 1976.

Earlier that morning, train WPV in the upper picture is about five miles east of Deeth and in the bottom picture is storming through downtown Deeth. It will soon go by the semaphore signal at the top of this page. Disk 29
