Train NPOAZ is coming through Palisade on September 16, 1987. The train had engines 3428, 3220, and 3281 pulling 37 loads of piggyback trailer flats and auto racks at 2,770 tons. The track in the foreground is the former Western Pacific mainline used by eastward trains. Disk 28
Palisade used to be a booming town of around 300 souls with three railroads. The Eureka and Palisade Railroad (narrow gauge) ran 90 miles south to tap the rich mining area around Eureka. It pulled up its tracks in 1938 after the mines shut down.
Train RGOAF comes through Palisade on August 15, 1981. The train had engines 9171, 8391, 9338, and 9124 pulling 57 loads, 74 empties at 8,790 tons. On the headend were loads of coal for industries in Stockton.
