Santa Fe Railway Pecos River Bridge

Freight train symbol 199 on the Santa Fe Railway Pecos River bridge

This bridge was one of the two remaining sections of single track between Clovis and Belen. Train 199 (Extra 5585 West) is gliding over the impressive structure on May 16, 1978. You can see the town of Fort Sumner in the background. Except for a few minor ripples, the grade is almost a constant 0.6% climb from here to Vaughn. BNSF completed a second bridge over the Pecos River around August 2016.

A little later, Extra 8014 West goes over the highway on its way into Fort Sumner. Before 1935, the road followed the tracks south to Ricardo and then west to Yeso. Disk 60
