ATSF freight train symbol 508 passing Melrose railroad depot

Melrose (established initially as Brownhorn in 1906) had been the first choice for a major yard for the railroad. However, greedy land speculators forced the railroad to buy land between Texico and Melrose. The yard at Clovis was the result. With the train back together again, engines 5331, 5172, 3852, 3821, and 3800 pull train 508 passed the Melrose railroad depot. Disk 59
