A maintenance window has train 508 stuck at Melrose. The crew of train 508 cut off the power from the rest of the train and ran into Melrose to get a bite to eat.

CTC was installed between Melrose and Vaughn in 1945. By the end of 1944, double track would stretch 35 miles from here at Melrose, east through Clovis, to Texico on the Texas border. For many years the double track ended here. From the cab you can see where the double track ended just west of the Melrose depot. Except for twelve miles of double track east of Vaughn, the railroad was single track from here all the way to Belen. The massive double track project from 1997 through 1999, eliminated many of the sidings and made operations much more fluid across the subdivision.  Disk 59
