CTC was installed between Melrose and Belen in 1944. By the end of 1944, double track would stretch 35 miles from here at Melrose, east through Clovis, to Texico on the Texas border. For many years the double track ended at Melrose. From the cab you can see where the double track ended just west of the Melrose depot. Except for twelve miles of double track east of Vaughn, the railroad was single track from here all the way to Belen. The massive double track project from 1997 through 1999, eliminated many of the sidings and made operations much more fluid across the subdivision. Since the double track project was completed through Abo Canyon in 2010, there are only two short segments of single track between Clovis and Belen. Disk 59 |
