Santa Fe Railway freight train symbol 863 at Saint Vrain

It is October 29, 1977 and train 863 had just recently been reinstated. It handled empty auto parts boxcars, loaded and empty auto racks, plus some TOFC for connection with the N&W at Kansas City. Extra 3607 East is about three miles east of Saint Vrain. Notice how the south main moves over slightly to accommodate the signals between the two tracks. Disk 59

Santa Fe Railway freight train symbol 199 passes train 508 east of Melrose, NM

A maintenance window further west has train 508 parked on the north main east of Melrose on July 12, 1988. Train 199 rushes by on the south main with engines 4003, 4008, and 4000. Train 199 is only about a quarter mile long and has plenty of power for its short train. In comparison you can see that train 508 stretches out for a good mile. Crew members from train 508 are down on the ground giving train 199 a roll by. Disk 60
