The Santa Fe was building the Colmor Cutoff in order to bypass the steep grade over Raton Pass. The Santa Fe built a line west from Boise City to Clayton, NM. It then used trackage rights over the C&S to Mount Dora, NM. In 1931, the Santa Fe extended the line west from Mount Dora to Farley, NM just 35 miles short of Colmor. This branch was never completed and was abandoned west of Boise City in September 1942.
