Santa Fe Railway U23C locomotive at Arriba, NM

The crew on train 408 had been having problems with engine 7501 and stopped at Arriba, first siding east of Las Vegas, to attempt repairs. The 20 Santa Fe U23Cs were built in 1969 and delivered in the 7500 series. They were used initially on the Rustler Springs unit sulfur trains and then went into service in Kansas, Colorado, and on the 804 and 408 trains over Raton Pass until retired in late 1984. Disk 62
