I prayed that I would have a slow westbound train to chase out of Tucumcari and this grain train was it. Train DHECG was the answer to that prayer. It had engines 7268, 7872, 7789, 7853, 7794, 7882 pulling 80 loads of grain and a caboose at 11,374 tons. I will chase this train all the way to Corona. The grade on the Golden State Route has been climbing since crossing the Cimarron River about 15 miles east of Liberal, KS (2850 feet). The elevation here at Tucumcari is 4,100 feet and the grade is going to increase as the track approaches Corona, topping out at 6,800 feet. |
