Southern Pacific grain train DHECG Cuervo, New Mexico

Southern Pacific grain train DHECG Cuervo, New Mexico

Grain train DHECG rolls through Cuervo, NM on February 16, 1988. Engines 7268, 7872, 7789, 7853, 7794, and 7882 are pulling 80 loads and a caboose at 11,374 tons up the slight grade. The grade will crest in another five miles and then the track drops down to Santa Rosa. The elevation here is 4,850 feet. In my younger days I thought Cuervo meant curve in Spanish. It actually means crow. Disk 59
