Coal trains in service to the Halstead, TX power plant meet at Royce, NM

Engines BN 7037, 7081, 5342, 7187, MKT 600, and BN 5011 on the empty train wait in the siding at Royce and meet BN 7220, MKT 603, 611, 614, 610, and BN 7170 on the loaded train on August 22, 1980. Note that the head brakeman is out to give the loaded train a rollby inspection.

After the loads go by the head brakeman lines the empty train out of the siding. Note the broom to clear the switch points of snow next to the switch stand. As the caboose approaches the switch, the train slows allowing the rear brakeman time to get off and line the switch back to the main. Disk 87
