Another large power plant was west of Houston at Smithers Lake. It is the fifth largest coal fired power plant in the US. Four units were completed between 1977 and 1982. Routing from Fort Worth was via the Santa Fe. On September 21, 1987 a loaded train for Houston Power and Light meets an empty train returning from the same power plant at Des Moines, NM. Engines ATSF 5156, 5153, BN 5095, 5070, and 6778 pull a train of empty UFIX gondolas while engine BN 8167, 7871, 5304, ATSF 5154, and BN 5370 are assigned to the loaded train. Disk 87
