City Public Service of San Antonio SATX empty coal train picks up train orders at Des Moines, NM

A BN empty coal train from San Antonio Public Service at Elmendorf, TX heads north to the Cordero mine for reloading. The head brakeman has just snagged the train orders at the Des Moines, NM depot on August 22, 1980. Engines SP 8689, 8739, BN 7936, 5505, 5578, and 5579 were pulling 111 SATX gondolas and a caboose. The two units at the JT Dealy power plant were completed in 1977 and 1978. Routing of loaded trains from Fort Worth was via the Southern Pacific to Corsicana, to Flatonia, then west to San Antonio. This transportation contract went to the Union Pacific in 1984. Disk 87
