Amtrak Chief from the Puerco River

Amtrak Chief from the Puerco River Santa Fe F7s on Amtrak Chief in 1972

During our September 1972 train chasing trip, Steve and I were headed west and stopped just short of Lupton on the New Mexico side of the border. Clouds were building up and would soon totally block the sun. I stayed up by the car on the other side of the tracks while Steve walked down to the river and caught these shots of the westbound Amtrak Chief. This train didn't last long, running only from June through September 1972. It was scheduled out of Gallup at 10:35AM.
