At Brule the dispatcher put the slower empty coal train symbol NGUW in the center siding to run the SLM (Salt Lake City Manifest) around it. The NGUW is returning empty hoppers from the Northern Indiana Public Service power plant at Gary, IN to the Hanna Basin. This coal train ran about twice a week in 1978 with 100 cars. One way distance was 1,203 miles. Today's train was lead by engines 3168 and CNW 6815.
