It was late afternoon by the time I got to North Platte. Bailey Yard is huge. It is eight miles long and sorts around 3,000 cars a day at the hump yard. Engines 459 (a de-turboed SD24) and 81 (a GP9B) shove a cut of cars from the SP at Ogden over the eastbound hump. On this trip in 1978, I took a quick shot of the hump and then headed south. Disk 78
