The next morning (May 17, 1992), I was waiting on a bridge over the tracks at the top end of the new south yard. I was waiting for the sun to get a little higher and a train to chase. There is always quite a bit of action here as trains move in and out of the yard plus power is changed on all empty trains coming in from Ravenna. So you will also see sets of power moving in and out of the yard. Train TT052 is pulling up to the north end of the new south yard. The train has engines 7185 UP 9011, 5099, 8029, and 5595. Train TT052 loaded at Black Thunder and is headed to Kansas City Power and Light's Iatan power plant at Sadler, MO.
As train TT052 is slowly moving to the junction at Alliance the power for train TT125 stops to wait being lined into the new south yard. These engines are Oakway 9046, 5127, 5013, and 5131.
By the time the power gets moving again, engines 5519, 5021, and 5108 have stopped just short of the maze of switches on the lead tracks of the new south yard. These engines have brought an empty train in from Ravenna. The brakeman is walking forward to line his train into the yard once the lite engines clear the switches. Further back (above the second unit in the train from Ravenna) is the wye connection with the Butte Sub that leads to Crawford Hill and eventually to the north entrance to the Powder River Basin.
Engines Oakway 9046, 5127, 5013, and 5131 move into the Alliance South Yard to pick up train TT125. The yard is used mainly to hold empty trains. Disk 82
