Northern Pacific Railway Depot at Paradise, MT

Paradise is the western junction for the Northern Pacific freight and passenger lines. The passenger line goes over Evaro Hill and was the original mainline built in 1883. The freight line follows the river and is 28 miles longer. A branch line from De Smet to Wallace, ID was completed in 1890. In 1909 the railroad built between St. Regis and Paradise to form the current freight line. Late in the afternoon on June 25, 1979 engine 1723 and another GP9 are resting between duties. Disk 11
