Train 264 is about to pick up train orders at Western Junction on April 19, 1973. This train began operating out of Portland as a result of the BN merger. The train ran on former NP trackage north from Portland to Chehalis, then used Milwaukee Road branch line trackage to get into Tacoma. The Milwaukee tried to compete with the BN for traffic moving between the Pacific Northwest and Chicago. About four regular freight trains a day used this branch line plus a few locals like the Maytown Turn in the previous picture and the Chehalis Western log trains. This picture was taken from the station parking lot. |
