Santa Fe Railway freight train at Augusta, KS

Steve took the top picture while I took the lower one. I think this westbound train (engines 5661 and 5541) is symbol 368, the old FO-53 symbol before all the symbols were changed in January 1971. It handled Ford automobiles and parts headed to southern California. This train was discontinued later in 1974.

In 1919 the AT&SF completed the installation of block signals on 13 miles of double track between Eldorado, KS and Augusta. In 1931, it added a GRS model 2 interlocking machine at Augusta with 34 working levers. By January 1950, CTC had been installed on single track segments from Ellinor, KS to Wellington via Augusta.
