The train has stopped at Cajon to turn down the retainers and allow the wheels to cool down. Jack takes the opportunity to photograph the brakeman. That is US 66 on the left. Hard to beleive it had so little traffic compared with the constant parade on Interstate 15 today. However, this was war time and gas along with a hundred other things were rationed. In the picture below we are looking back toward the caboose. Off to the left about a half mile is Sullivan's Curve.
