After crossing US 66, the line turns almost due west and heads toward Java. Hard to get an exact count, but I get around 36 cars ahead of the caboose. A far cry from the 7 to 10 thousand foot double stack trains the BNSF operates today.


Looking back to the east from atop the cupola, we are passing the siding at Ibis on the left. The track on the right is the eastward main. This is near milepost 592. Further up the line the tracks split and after another half mile the eastward main takes a hard left turn toward Goffs.


Near Bannock, Jack's train meets an eastbound train.
