Extra 5908 East (train symbol 803) comes around the curve at Texico, NM on February 23, 1974. The state line is at the highway crossing just about 200 feet ahead of the engines. In 1928, ATSF added an electric interlocker at Texico, NM with 10 levers to control 9 switches. The interlocking was removed when CTC was added between Texico and Amarillo in 1948.
Power was a bit different 31 years earlier. Powering Jack Delano's train west in March 1943 was engine 3210. This was a 2-8-2 Mikado. He has just crossed into New Mexico from Farwell, TX.
