The Pere Marquette Railway was merged into the C&O in 1947. The C&O shares trackage with Conrail between Porter and Chicago. A little later in the afternoon engines B&O 3842 and C&O 3901 lead their train by the interlocking tower at Porter. The track in the foreground is a connector from the former Michigan Central, then Conrail's Ivanhoe Branch into Chicago, with the NYC mainline.
