ATSF Railway freight train symbol 344 is cresting the hill at Palmer Lake on May 16, 1992. It is shifting from former Rio Grande track to former Santa Fe track. The train has engines 5016, 5261, and 5062. Train 344 handled manifest traffic between Kansas City and Denver. It was scheduled out of Kansas City at 5:00AM and did major switching at La Junta to set out traffic for train 435 for Amarillo and Lubbock and 448 for Albuquerque and the West Coast. It would pick up traffic from trains 534 and 844 and should leave La Junta at 5:00PM. It would normally run through Palmer Lake during darkness, but is running many hours late on this day. Right behind the engines is the set out for Big Lift. On the rear are a block of empty insulated boxcars for the Coors Brewery at Golden. Disk 38
