BN empty coal train at Crawford, NE

At the little town of Crawford, NE, engine 5023 is crossing the C&NW Cowboy Line to Casper. Occasionally during the early 1980s, the BN would interchange a unit coal train here with the C&NW. BN's monopoly on the Powder River Basin ended in 1984, when C&NW got financing from the Union Pacific and used part of the Cowboy Line plus some brand new trackage to connect the southern end of BN Orin Line with the Union Pacific at South Morrill. Trailing engine 5023 is another BN U33C 5091 and three MP units: 3293, 6019, and 6030.
