Coal train symbol CBBPL at Wamsutter, WY

The Black Buttes mine a joint venture between Union Pacific and Kiewit Mining Group Inc. One of the first trains loaded at the mine in 1979 was the PBUE (Plains Black Butte Unit East) for the Commonwealth Edison Joliet Plant at Plains, IL. In the mid80s the symbol became the CBBPL. On September 18, 1987 train CBBPL rolls through Wamsutter, WY with engines 3688, 3400, 2465, and 3103. These trains supplied about three million tons of coal a year for this plant until the coal contract went to the Rochelle mine in 1992. The Black Buttes mine continues to supply the Jim Bridger power plant with around three million tons of coal per year.
