Fort Sumner is at milepost 717 at an elevation of 4,050 feet. The town was initially called Sunnyside until 1910. Train VKCLA rumbles passed the station at Fort Sumner on July 12, 1988. On the headend are engines 5714, 3066, and 8042. Train 358 became train VKCLA in mid-1987. It was scheduled out of Kansas City at 11:00PM and out of Clovis at 3:40PM the next day.
